"FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY"

Most people experience fear when it comes to trying something new, common fears that people can face when it comes to fitness (trying a new gym or joining a fitness group) are:

  • Failure

  • Judgement

  • The unknown

  • Being intimidated

  • Being the new person

  • Being out of your comfort zone

There are many reasons as to why we may have these fears, something that has happened to you in your childhood, in your personal life or at work. There is no easy fix but I would like to share some strategies with you that has worked for me when I'm trying to overcome these fears:

  • Self talk, positive words of encouragement.

  • Focusing on how good I will feel when I succeed.

  • Remembering the more I think about it, the longer I have to talk myself out of it...sometimes its good to act on impulse.

  • What is the worst that can happen? I fail? I get laughed at?

  • Analyse if its really a logical or illogical fear.

  • Talk to a friend or a family member that will encourage me and help me.

  • Be persistent, do it over and over again and eventually the fear will lose power over me.

My words of advice to you if you are feeling scared of failure, feeling intimidated or worried about being out of your comfort zone...Take the jump, "feel the fear and do it anyway"!
